Panama Boquete Finca Los Urriola

PANAMA

Coffee cultivation in Panama began in the early 1800s and expanded significantly in the highlands of Chiriquí Province, particularly in the regions of Boquete, Volcán, and Renacimiento. These areas offer ideal growing conditions: high elevations between 1,200 and 1,900 meters, volcanic soil, cool temperatures, abundant rainfall, and unique cloud forest microclimates. These environmental factors allow Arabica coffee plants to develop slowly, producing beans with greater sweetness, complexity, and aroma.

THE COFFEE

This coffee is from the Urriola family's specialty coffee farm, Los Urriola, in Boquete, Panama. Boquete is a valley on the eastern side of Volcan Baru, the tallest mountain in Panama. The valley floor is about 1000 meters above sea level and most of the coffee is grown on the slopes that surround the valley going up towards the volcano and into the central cordillera. Coffee is grown in some areas above 1650 meters.

Mr. José A. Urriola founded Los Urriola in the 1940s as a small coffee farm. Today, Los Urriola remains a family business. It is currently managed by Mr. José's grandson Carlos Jr. and his son, Marcos.
