From Us to You: Making our Products, Ourselves
If you’ve ever strolled into any of our three locations, the following may have occurred. You saw delicious looking baked goods displayed on the countertops. You were met by the alluring scent of green coffee beans being roasted in the far end of the room; soon to be packaged and brewed. You spot bottles filled with sweet syrups, waiting to be chosen to flavor your beverage.
All three of the happening mentioned above have one thing in common for sure...we’ve made them!
All of our whole bean coffee that we brew, sell on retail or on our online store have been roasted by our roaster and onsite at our Downtown Canton store. The beans that we use are decided upon through cuppings, where Alex and the Roasters taste the coffees brewed from the beans and if they are satisfied by the flavor notes, the body, the scent, etc of the coffee then they are good enough to be a part of our selection. We also stand by our words, in that we discount our freshly roasted beans once they are 10 days out of the roaster. We want you to experience the most freshly roasted coffee, honestly.
All Tea Now Direct Trade
We put a lot of care and research into our loose leaf teas that we serve in our shops. We appreciate the relationships we have with those whom we receive our tea from, so much so that we are hosting a campaign this Autumn based on our directly imported teas! We hosted a tea tasting workshop, led by Alexander Haas, at the Downtown Muggswigz location on Walnut Ave. We prepared many different teas and were prepared to discuss the basics of tea tasting as well as highlight one of the families that we receive the tea directly from. Most of our Indian Teas come from the Lochan Family in Darjeeling, India, and we have been working with them since 2006! Rajiv Lochan owns and runs the tea farm, with members of his family, where we directly import from. He has been in business for 43 years, and gained his experience, knowledge and “training on the job.” It is a family business, which he says, “is very traditional.” Join us at our stores to learn more about our loose leaf tea and the family that we work with!
Tea blend to honor Akron OH Inventor
We have created a tea blend to honor a local man from Akron, OH for his contributions as an energy inventor and scientist, Stanford Ovshinsky, and the blend is the Stanford Apricot Amalgam.
Stanford Ovshinsky drank both Black tea and Green tea daily, with a habit of adding jam to sweeten it up. Muggswigz’ tea blend is named, ‘Stanford’s Apricot Amalgam’ and is a black and green tea blend to represent the contribution to AC/DC current issues research he worked on. The apricot flavor pays homage to the jam he added to his black tea while enjoying a cup with his mother. The Green tea portion of this blend comes from his trips to Japan.
Stanford’s family, including Ben, Natasha, his granddaughter, and Robin, his daughter, helped provide insights of their self taught scientist and inventor family member. This tea will be first available at the newest Muggswigz shop located in Portage Lakes, starting July 1, 2017. The other two Muggswigz shops, located in Jackson Township and Downtown Canton, will carry this tea starting August 1, 2017.
New Coffee and Tea Bar
When we think of the Portage Lakes area, we think of a strong community with hard working people; an impressive school system; and quaint neighborhoods. With all of the community having students studying hard and people working quite a bit, there should be a place where they can all get together and catch up or study or have that moment to yourself where you aren’t hustled by daily life. This was the attraction we saw here at Muggswigz Coffee and Tea Company.
We plan on opening a shop in the Portage Lakes area very soon. We are looking for a starting staff of baristas who want to share their passion for coffee and tea and also learn more about the craft. We are looking for potential hires with professionalism, great service skills, who think on their feet, and, of course, have a passion for coffee and tea!
