Muggswigz Syrups for Sale!
In 2003, Alex Haas opened the doors of Muggswigz Coffee and Tea co. Although he was younger than most business owners, he had a defined mission for quality assurance and pride in every aspect of his business. That is one of the reasons Muggswigz is so unique. Not only do we roast our own coffee, but we blend our own teas, bake our own baked goods, and make our own syrups, all in-house. Our recipes have been developed specifically to enhance your coffee drinking and enjoying experience

sauciers

At the beginning of 2010, the Saucier Team (those who make the flavor syrups) defined a few goals for the year. The team has worked hard, with Alex, to develop syrups that can be purchased by you, our wonderful guests. Each syrup had been carefully monitored and tested for the past 7 months to ensure the high quality standards we hold ourselves to everyday, can be available to you in your own home.

So on Friday August 13th 2010 we will launch our line of syrups for guest purchase!

The following syrups will be available: drum roll please...

Vanilla, Caramel, Refined Sugar, Raw Sugar, (Great for iced tea!), Coffee, Chai, Cinnamon, and Lavender!

Did we mention we're also selling Caramel Sauce and Flower Sauce?!?! Yup, we're doing that too! Supplies are limited, so come in and get a bottle of your favorite syrup first thing in the morning! It'll be a great way to kick-start your weekend.

Alpha Art
If you've ever walked into Muggswigz on a normal business morning, you may have been greeted by a friendly smile and a bright-eyed barista named Lindsey Myers.  Not only is she known for her big furry boots and funky style, but also she's recognized as one of the best Baristas in Ohio.

Returning in March this year after representing Muggswigz in the Great Lakes Barista Competition, Lindsey began polishing her latest project called "Alpha Art".  Alpha Art is skilled latte art with letters, creating 2-4 letter words or an acronym.  Not only does this require a significant amount of experience, but with any latte art one must be able to achieve velvety micro foam and precision.  "Guests love it!" said Sarah Bruckner-Wolfe, a co-worker if Lindsey's. "They're so happy to receive a personalized monogram in their cup."

You can see Lindsey's work all around Canton in promotion for Stark State College.  The largest advertisement is on Rt. 30 E. directly off the Raff Rd. exit. The billboard is a picture of a coffee cup with "NOW" drawn in it, supported by the phrase, "Careers for The NOW Economy".  We are proud to have Lindsey's enthusiasm and expertise on the Muggswigz team.

Muggswigz Baristas Throw Down Again

Defending competitor Lindsey Myers brings new face Faith Wieder to the Great Lakes Barista Competition.

Canton, OH March 11th-14th- Muggswigz Coffee and Tea co. will be sending two of their highly trained and skilled baristas to The Great Lakes Barista Competition in Milwaukee, WI.

Lindsey Myers is a defending competitor and has competed in the competition for the past four years. "My favorite part of the competition is that it encompasses everything that a barista has to offer-technical skills, efficiency, sense, knowledge, creativity, and delicious drinks,” says Lindsey. “The process really fuels professional development and innovation in coffee culture." Not only is Lindsey a competitor, but she is also among the highest scoring baristas in Ohio.

"I feel so privileged to be with someone who takes their profession serious and has a clear, defined passion for this sort of thing," says first-year competitor Faith Wieder. "I already take pride in my job, but this adds a whole new level of ownership."

The baristas at the competition will be given a total of 45 minutes to bring their best game face. The first 15 minutes is preparation time, which allows the baristas time to set up their presentation, work space, and to squeeze in their last ounce of mental preparation before the competition. The second 15 minutes is when the judging begins. Each competitor must make four shots of espresso, four cappuccinos, and four “specialty drinks” for the four sensory judges. The specialty drink should enhance the espresso bean the competitor chose and display the individual’s creativity. The competition is overseen by a head judge and two technical judges in addition to the four sensory judges.  The final 15 minutes should be clean up time.

According to the United States Barista Championship Official Rules and Regulations, the judges are looking for a barista who has “mastery of technical skills, craftsmanship, communication skills, and who is passionate about their profession in addition to service.” They should “have a broad understanding of coffee knowledge and serves the high quality beverages.” They should be able to “serve as a role model and source of inspiration.”

The SCAA Barista Championship will be streamed online Sunday, March 14th at http://usbaristachampionship.org/.  Lindsey and Faith will also be documenting their experience on the Muggswigz fan page on Facebook.

Muggswigz Coffee and Tea co. is located at 137 Walnut Ave. Canton, OH 44702. They have an extensive featuring traditional coffee drinks and tea, baked goods made in store, and make their own syrups, as well as do latte art on espresso drinks.
